The ZF 5 Speed replaced the T-19 in Ford diesels. Few 6.9L idi powered trucks exist that were equipped with the ZF 5 speed. The ZF is a light weight, but heavy duty transmission. The transmission proved to be a reliable gearbox for Ford diesel owners. 2 versions of the ZF 5 speed were produced, the ZF S5-42 & ZF S5-47. The ZF S5-47 featured a higher max input torque rating, which was required to meet the torque output of the 7.3L Power Stroke.
