Cummins #53 Block Information
Information regarding the dreaded #53 5.9L ISB blocks has been added to CumminsDieselSpecs.com. If you are unfamiliar with this particular subject, some 24v 5.9L Cummins engine blocks are subject to cracking as a result of thin casting around the water jackets of the block. The problematic blocks were cast in the same facility and can be identified by a casting number "53" on the side of the engine block.

Diesel Power Directory
I have been adding a lot of resources to the directory in the past month, still some empty categories that I have not added links to. If you know of a good website that is related to Cummins, Power Stroke, Duramax, or any of the IDI diesels, you can submit them to the directory for free and share them with the community. This includes any forums/message boards that are may be active on that you would recommend to others who share your interests.

Diesel Hub
I have recently launched a blog. The Diesel Power Network is purely based on facts, where as in my blog I speculate on industry trends, talk about news, rumors, and tackle some more opinion based topics. I mean it to be entertaining and interesting to read. I have alread uploaded 6 or so posts, and my goal is to remain active by adding 1-2 new posts per week. Check it out if you're interested, and I'm always open to suggestions for future topics, as well as guest blogging (uploading a post made by someone other than myself) if you would like to speak your mind on a topic.

Diesel Power Network Newsletter | September 2010
Recently Completed:
Half Ton Diesel has recently been launched. The most important topic that is introduces is an overview of the 4.4L Lion V8 that we'd all love to see be offered in the Ford F150. Before the economy bit the dust, Ford, GM, & Dodge all had 1/2 diesel engines lined up and near the final stages of development. However, the poor economic climate stalled any and all plans for any manufacturer to release a 1/2 ton diesel. Of the Big 3 automakers, Ford Motor Company is in the best position to offer a 1/2 ton diesel, and it would likely be the 4.4L Lion V8. The 4.4L is currently used in Europe in a few applications. Can you imagine 500+ lb-ft of twin turbocharged diesel in a F150? I find the topic of future 1/2 ton diesels very interesting, which is why I compiled this page. I urge you to check it out, especially the Lion V6/V8 motors, which we will likely (fingers crossed) see offered first. (It also features information on the 1/2 ton Duramax & Cummins engines, which are equally interesting).

6.7L Power Stroke Diesel News:
Ford Motor Company announced in early August 2010 that is was raising the power output of the new 6.7L Power Stroke to 400 HP & 800 lb-ft. This puts the new Power Stroke a notch above the new Duramax (rated at 397 HP & 765 lb-ft.). In case you missed it, the story goes that Ford released its power ratings for the 6.7L Power Stroke, only to have them beat by the latest Duramax a short time later. While the 6.7L Power Stroke is a brand new engine, not based on any past generations, the new 6.6L Duramax features the same architecture & design as previous models. But that's not all; GOOD NEWS FOR 6.7L POWER STROKE OWNERS: Ford announced in a press release that current 6.7L Power Stroke owners will be able to get their truck reflashed (a reflash reprograms the trucks computer) for the new power ratings. This means anyone who currently owns the 390/735 version of the new Power Stroke can be upgraded to the higher 400/800 ratings for free. I'm anxiously awaiting Cummins response to the latest versions of the Power Stroke & Duramax. Cummins 6.7L currently sits at the bottom of the pack, with 350 HP & 650 lb-ft. With the current outlook in auto sales grim, it will be interesting to see whether they decide to one up the competition, or wait for more a more financially stable truck market to mix things up. Either way, expect them to become competitive in their power ratings again.
Last Month:
A lot of new subscription requests arrived in August, so I'd like to reintroduce the Diesel Performance Database for new subscribers. The Diesel Power DB was released in early August. It provides a lot of information regarding upgrading/modifying your diesel for more performance. Topics cover just about everything the Diesel Performance Industry has to offer for all Cummins, Power Stroke, & Duramax diesel powered trucks. If you plan on modifying your diesel, check it so at the very least you will understand how the different components work and the risks involved with installing them.

Diesel Power Network Newsletter | August 2010
A new resource has been added to the Diesel Power Network for August; The Diesel Performance Database.
The Diesel Performance Database is a guide to performance modifications for Cummins, Power Stroke, & Duramax diesels. The Diesel Performance Database discusses performance enhancing techniques & products for all generations of each respective engine family. The performance modifications reviewed help to increase horsepower, torque, fuel economy, & lower exhaust gas temperatures. The website has no ties to performance product manufacturers, and is therefore an unbiased performance resource. Future plans include extending performance topics to cover older engines, such as the GM/Ford IDI engines. I hope you find this new performance resource interesting & useful in answering your questions!
